Up There & New Balance Reconnect on the 1906R

Fresh off of its collaboration with ASICS on the “Kookaburra” GEL-LYTE III, Australia’s Up There boutique reconnects with New Balance to release an exclusive colorway of the 1906R.

You may remember Up There’s last New Balance project, the 2002R “Backyard Legends” from 2022. This time, the silhouette of choice is the 2002R’s big brother, the 1906R, both of which are remastered versions of their early ’00s running archive counterparts equipped with sole units borrowed from the 860v2.

Up There’s 1906R takes a unique approach to New Balance’s classic grey colorway, playing with light instead of color by drawing on differing forms of reflectivity. Uppers come in monochrome silver, constructed from a double-layered mesh with a fully reflective underlay. The 1906 branding near the heel, normally embossed into the panels, is printed with a reflective finish. Underfoot is an off-white midsole with a custom painted section at the forefoot which alters the tooling’s proportions. The N-DURANCE rubber outsole and springy N-ERGY pods are both finished in a translucent “Grey Ice” finish. Lastly, you’ll find green accents on the heel, insoles, and on the tips of the bungee laces. This is the same shade of green as the plush carpets found in-store

That is not all! The shoes come packaged with a special set of custom-made socks with reflective woven branding. Also there are four total lace options: tonal silver, soft-white with reflective threads, a bungee cord lace featuring a black toggle and green waxed tips, and the iconic Sure-Lace Bubble laces.

The Up There x New Balance 1906R drops on Black Friday, November 24th, at 10am AEDT on the Up There website and in-store at Up There’s Melbourne outpost. Check it out below.
