One of the most anticipated releases of 2023 has finally been officially announced. Warner Bros. and Nike are coming together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Powerpuff Girls with a special collection of SB Dunk Lows.
Craig McCracken originally developed The Powerpuff Girls in 1992 as a cartoon short entitled Whoopass Stew! while in his second year at CalArts. It wasn’t until years later that the show debuted as a Cartoon Cartoon on Cartoon Network, first airing on November 18, 1998. The original series ran for six seasons for a total of 78 episodes, with the final episode on March 25, 2005. However, The Powerpuff Girls legacy continued to expand as the years went on, with a reboot launched in 2016 and a second reboot with its original creator Craig McCracken now in development.
Nike SB is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the The Powerpuff Girls’ debut with a three-piece Dunk Low collection, a colorway created for each of the three girls: Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup. Each pair come dressed in the character’s signature colors and each colorway from the pack is made from a different material. The standard heel paneling has been swapped with the character’s eye, complemented by a mouth underneath. Additional details include reflective trimming on the paneling, jacquard The Powerpuff Girls branding on the tongue, and stylized Nike SB branding on the tongue tags. More hidden details are found on the inside of the shoe, including a graphic of “sugar, spice, and everything nice” on the tongue tag, as well as unique graphic insoles for each colorway that feature a cameo from the girls’ evil nemesis, Mojo Jojo.
The Powerpuff Girls x Nike SB Dunk Low collection will drop on December 14th at select skate shops, a day before its SNKRS drop on December 15th. Check out all three colorways below. (On-feet photos via Yankee Kicks)
