Original Story (02/09/24): This past July, Deion Sanders and Nike announced the rekindling of their partnership after being apart for over a decade. This was great news for fans of Sanders’ signature Nike Diamond Turf line, as it meant that the iconic kicks from the ’90s would surely be making their return. Fast forward to present day, the first release from this revived partnership has now been announced, the Air Diamond Turf Max ’96 in its OG black and white colorway.
The Air DT Max ’96 was the third sneaker from Prime Time’s signature Diamond Turf Line and was originally released in 1996 while Sanders was playing for the Dallas Cowboys. The shoe was designed for multi-sport athletes like Deion, who was a dual-threat in both professional baseball and football. Its midfoot strap helps secure your foot in place, while the Max Air bubble provides cushioning underfoot. Aesthetically, the DT Max ’96 stands out with its torn aesthetic on the uppers, featuring paneling that looks like claw marks. This 2024 version features the return of the goal post/diamond logo on the tongue, a feature that was missing from retros that released during the Deion Sanders and Nike split. Deion’s new “Prime 21” logo has also been added to the heel pull tab, plus a young Deion’s face appears on the Air bubble on the outsole.
The Nike Air Diamond Turf Max ’96 “Black/White” drops February 10th on SNKRS. This release is rumored to be extremely limited (1,500 pairs). Hopefully this is just a taste for Super Bowl weekend and a wider release will be announced in the future. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for potential updates. In the meantime, check out the official images below.
Update (04/26/24): Following a limited SNKRS release for Super Bowl weekend, the Air Diamond Turf Max ’96 “Black/White” will be returning for a wider release on June 14th.
Also, while the official images show an added “Prime 21” logo embroidered on the pull heel tab, customers that have received their pair from the Super Bowl drop have noted that their pairs did not feature this branding. For now, it looks like only the F&F pairs will feature this new logo.
