Original Story (02/02/24): Renowned NYC street artist Leonard McGurr, better known as Futura, has a new collaboration with Nike SB dropping this year.
Futura and the Swoosh have a long legacy of iconic collabs together, dating back to 2003 with the release of the first Futura x Nike SB Dunk Low. Their most recent project up to this point was the Off-White x Futura x Nike Dunk Low, first revealed by Virgil Abloh in 2019 and only made available to the public in 2023 via a Sotheby’s eight-pair auction. Thankfully this next collaboration will have a wider release.
The 2024 Futura x Nike SB Dunk Low will be releasing this year in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 2004 FLOM SB Dunk High, the first Futura x Nike SB collab to feature Futura’s art on the shoe. This upcoming project was stealthily revealed as part of Futura’s Breaking Out art exhibition at UB Art Galleries in Buffalo, NY. It actually took a few days from when the shoes were first put on display for photos of them to start circulating online.
The shoe features a white mesh base with graphics from the artist’s 1991 “Colorforms” painting printed on the canvas overlays. This is paired with a dark teal Swoosh on the side panels and reflective 3m silver heel panels. Other notable features on the upper are Futura’s signature on the lateral heel, “FL” (Futura Laboratories) branding on the medial heel, co-branding on the tongue tags in Futura’s signature font, and an embroidery hit on the medial of the toe overlay on the right-foot shoe. Underfoot sits a white midsole with blue stitching and an icy blue translucent outsole adorned with Futura’s signature underneath the Nike branding. The shoes are equipped with blue two-toned laces that switch colors mid-length and come with an extra set of purple laces.
The Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low is expected to drop sometime this summer at local skate shops. These are rumored to be more limited than other Nike SB Dunk Low collabs, so don’t expect them to be an easy cop. Grab an early look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.

Update (05/06/24): Skate shop release for the Futura SB Dunk Low is set for May 18th. Keep an eye on your local shops for release instructions. A SNKRS release is slated for May 22nd.
Update (05/11/24): Along with the skate shop and SNKRS release, there is also a drop via the Futura Laboratories website. An EQL raffle is now up on the site and closes on May 15th.
Update (05/14/24): Futura has announced that one lucky winner from the raffle on the Futura Laboratories website will be randomly selected to receive the F&F edition. This version features artwork from an untitled painting from 1984. Good luck to all!
