Fresh off of the launch of its New Balance 990v3 collab, Patta is now teaming up with fellow Amsterdam-based brand Experimental Jetset for a collection that includes apparel, footwear, and accessories.
Founded in 1997, Experimental Jetset is a small, independent, graphic design studio with a simple mantra: “turning language into objects.” Titled “Patta Pyschogeographic Practice,” the Patta x Experimental Jetset collection features unique designs that echo the values of psychogeography, defined as the effect of a geographical location on the emotions and behavior of individuals.
Apparel in the collection includes coach jackets, hoodies and crewneck sweaters, and tees with graphics that “[harness] the aesthetic of metropolitan maps and directional signage.”
“The idea of psychogeography is to defy the prescriptive directions leading you through a city, and instead drift, explore and wander in a more natural, free-flowing way,” says Patta. “With this capsule collection, you can remind yourself that it’s all about the journey, not the destination. Reject the autopilot routes you typically travel and explore based on impulse. This collaboration is about the apparel and where you take these styles. Right is left. Left is right. South is north. North is south.”
Work on the collection began in 2020, when Amsterdam and the rest of the world was filled with directional arrows to help regulate pedestrian traffic and maintain social distancing. This is one of the inspirations for the collection, which features arrows as the main motif across the products. Experimental Jetset also cites the artwork for The Jam’s 1977 album This is the Modern World and a 1957 psychogeographical map by Guy Debord titled “The Naked City” as inspirations.
Accessories in the collection include a black umbrella and a hangable flag, both adorned with the same arrow-heavy graphics as the apparel. Rounding out the collection is a collab with Converse on the Chuck 70. The shoe features a white canvas upper adorned with motifs such as red and blue arrow graphics and a triple P logo, as well as phrases such as “…to walk is to read — to read is to walk”. The shoe’s also comes with mismatching red and blue outsoles, extra blue and red laces, and a special box.
The Patta x Experimental Jetset “Patta Psychogeographic Practice” collection drops on Thursday, November 10th on the Patta website and at Patta chapter stores. The Converse Chuck 70 will also launch at retailers worldwide. Check out the campaign imagery and lookbook photos below.
