In 2004, a streetwear shop in Amsterdam by the name of Patta first opened its doors. The Dutch entity, founded by Edson Sabajo and Guillaume ‘Gee’ Schmidt, has grown tremendously since then. Besides being a successful brick-and-mortar and online retailer, Patta now has its own clothing line, a music division titled Patta Soundsystem, running and cycling teams, and the Patta Foundation focusing on youth cultural education.
Nike has been a supporter of Patta since the early days, the duo first teaming up in 2006 on their first joint project, the “Homegrown” Air Max 90. Following more recent collabs like the Air Max 1 “Wave” series and last year’s FC Barcelona project, Patta x Nike is back with a Patta Running Team collaborative capsule, just in time for Patta’s 20th anniversary celebration.
The Nike x Patta Running Team collaboration embraces Nike’s running heritage and Patta Running Team’s mission to inspire athletes with different backgrounds and ambitions to come together as a group and help one another achieve their goals.
“Patta Running Team was born from a desire to connect with like-minded individuals around the world through the universal language of running,” says Edson Sabajo, who founded the Patta Running Team in 2010. “It’s about discovering new places, forging new connections and embracing freedom. Running transcends borders. Because when you run, your mind and spirit are set free to think and dream.”
The capsule is highlighted by a modified version of the 1993 Air Huarache Plus, updated with modern Air Zoom tooling pulled from the Pegasus 40. With DNA from the Pegasus running line, which launched all the way back in 1983, the Patta x Nike Air Huarache 20Y24 celebrates running design from the past as well as present day.
The footwear will be dropping in three colorways — black, yellow, and pink — with the pink colorway releasing as a Patta exclusive.
The capsule also includes of a unisex apparel offering, featuring leggings made from lenticular three-color material, a heavyweight varsity jacket, track and race suits, and more. The pieces are showcased in a campaign starring Ethiopian-born Dutch runner Sifan Hassan, who embodies strength and resilience as a two-time gold medalist for the Netherlands.
The Nike x Patta Running Team collection launches April 26th at patta.nl and at Patta stores. A wider release will follow May 2nd on SNKRS and in select Nike partner stores. Check out the campaign photos below.
