Original Story (10/13/22): Nike is preparing to drop a pack of footwear that nods to San Francisco’s historic Chinatown neighborhood. After taking a look at the Air Force 1 in this pack, we now dive into the pack’s Dunk High.
The defining feature of this Dunk High is the gold mountain motif on the lateral heels. This is a reference to how San Francisco’s name in Chinese (舊金山) literally translates to “old gold mountain.” This name originated during the California Gold Rush, when large groups of Chinese immigrants traveled by ship, docking in San Francisco. Many of these pioneers settled in what is now San Francisco’s Chinatown, the oldest Chinatown in North America and one of the largest Chinese communities outside of Asia.
Other features of this Dunk High include a Summit White leather upper, grey suede overlays, hairy green suede heel tabs, green sockliners and insoles, white midsoles, and icy blue translucent outsoles. “舊金山” in gold foil is found on the tongue tags, as well as on the insoles.
