Nike Is Dropping an Air Max 1 in Honor of King’s Day

Nike is dropping a special colorway of the Air Max 1 in celebration of the Dutch holiday known as Koningsdag, aka King’s Day.

Koningsdag is celebrated every year on the birthday of the reigning monarch of the Netherlands, which is currently King Willem-Alexander, who was born on April 27th. Koningsdag is known for its nationwide vrijmarkt (“free market”) at which the Dutch sell their used items, and is also an opportunity for “orange madness” or oranjegekte, where the Dutch display pride in their country by wearing the national color of orange.

The “King’s Day” Air Max 1 features an orange mesh upper with additional pops of orange on the leather swoosh, the canvas overlays, the laces, and the Nike branding. This is paired with smooth brown leather overlays and a brown textile around the heel that has a wood-like texture, likely a nod to the boats that fill the canals of Amsterdam during the King’s Day celebration.

The Nike Air Max 1 “King’s Day” is expected to drop in April via SNKRS and select retailers. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
