Jacquemus Is Bringing Back Nike’s First Ever Shoe

Jacquemus has unveiled its next Nike collab. After dropping unique iterations of the Humara, Air Force 1, and Air Max 1, the French luxury brand is now deep-diving into the Swoosh’s archive to bring back the first ever Nike shoe.

That’s right. The Nike Moon Shoe from 1972 will soon be making its return. As the famous story goes, Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman was messing around with his wife’s waffle iron when he had the idea to pour rubber into the mold. The result was the first rubber sole prototype for Nike’s early running shoes. This waffle sole made its debut on the “Moon Shoe,” which got its name from how the waffle traction pattern left in dirt resembled the tracks astronauts left on the moon in 1969. Only a handful of Moon Shoes were made for athletes at the 1972 US Track & Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

The Nike Moon Shoe made headlines in 2019 when an original pair was sold for $437,500 at auction, setting the then-record for most expensive sneaker ever sold.

Jacquemus’ iteration of the Nike Moon Shoe made its debut at the brand’s “La Croisière” Spring 2025 runway show during Paris Fashion Week. Staying fairly true to the original 50-year-old design, the shoe features a low-profile nylon build with circular perforations for ventilation throughout the upper. Jacquemus added its own branding to the tongue tags, as well as the leather aglets seen on the laces of all previous Jacquemus x Nike footwear collabs. The pair debuted by Jacquemus is one of three colorways expected to release, featuring a yellowed upper for a vintage look.

The Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe is expected to drop Holiday 2025 on the Jacquemus website, SNKRS, and at select retailers. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
