Following the release of their adidas “Pork Chop Piggy Runner” collab, Cincinnati-based UNheardof is revisiting the Rivalry Low one last time for a special Mother’s Day drop.
In 2023, UNheardof founder Phil Lipschutz kicked off a series of Rivalry Low releases, with each colorway dedicated to a special woman in his life. First was the “Erika’s Poem,” a tribute to Phil’s sister who died by suicide at age 16, created to help raise mental health awareness. This was followed by the purple “Grandma’s Couch” colorway, a tribute to Phil’s grandma Naomi, who took him in as a teenager while his single mother was struggling with drug addiction. The “Grandma’s Couch” colorway was accompanied by a “Mom’s Ugly Couch” colorway, a tribute to Phil’s mother who passed away in 2011.
Phil now presents a second “Grandma’s Couch” colorway in pink, further immortalizing Naomi’s legacy through design. Naomi played an integral role in leading the creative process, up until her passing in 2024 at the age of 100. The uppers are decorated with flowers handpicked by Naomi herself, while the heel bears the adidas logo in her handwriting. “Dear Naomi” on the forefoot and “Love always and forever” serve as a farewell message from Phil to his grandma, while the insoles feature a 1947 painting of Naomi by Phil’s grandfather.
Like previous UNheardof x adidas collabs, the “Grandma’s Couch 2” Rivalry Low comes with special packaging. The pink wooden box is designed like a vintage makeup organizer, complete with a mirror on the inside, an ode to luxury beauty products Phil used to gift Naomi.
The UNheardof x adidas Rivalry Low Grandma’s Couch “Mother’s Day” (aka “Dear Naomi”) is limited to 600 pairs, dropping May 10th exclusively in-store at UNheardof in Cincinnati. Check out the pair below.
Update (05/08/25): In addition to the pink colorway, UNheardof has also cooked up a green pair of their “Mother’s Day” Grandma’s Couch Rivalry Low, limited to just 100 pairs. These are most likely F&F exclusive. If pairs are made available for sale, expect them to drop at the launch event in Cincinnati, similar to how the blue Piggy Runners released.
