Jacquemus Reveals Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Collab

After reworking the Air Humara in 2022 and the Air Force 1 in 2023, Jacquemus is now reconnecting with Nike in 2024 for a collaboration on the Air Max 1 ’86.

French fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and his eponymous label take on the “Big Bubble” version of the Air Max 1, offering it in two colorways: white and silver. Like previous Jacquemus x Nike footwear projects, this collab is more than a simple color/material swap. Starting at the Air bubble on the lateral midsole, we see that its shape is more rectangular that on the standard AM1 ’86. A more drastic change is made to the Air bubble on the medial side, shaped into a small circle on the left shoe and a small square on the right shoe.

This square and circle theme continues throughout the shoe’s design. The metallic eyelets at the top of the tongue are square and circle shaped, as are the hangtags and the traction pattern on the outsoles. Other features that stand out on the Jacquemus Air Max 1 are its squared toe box, the suede piping that connects the upper to the midsole, the thin ankle collar, and the mini metallic Swoosh on the side panels that has become signature to Jacquemus x Nike projects.

It’s also worth noting that there are differences between the two colorways. The white colorway is constructed from leather and features circular perforations on the quarter panels and the tip of the toe box. This is paired with a grey suede mudguard. The silver colorway features a mesh upper with matching silver overlays in patent leather. Both pairs feature Jacquemus branding debossed onto the heels.

The Jacquemus x Nike Air Max 1 ’86 is slated to drop this June on the Jacquemus website, as well as possibly on SNKRS and at select retailers. Grab a preview of both colorways below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
