Contemporary artist Tyrrell Winston is back with his second collection with Reebok, following the release of his first collaboration with the brand in Spring 2022. The new collection explores the correlation between art and sport, inspired by the notion that the artist is an athlete and the athlete is an artist. This is achieved across two footwear silhouettes: the Club C and Classic Leather.
“It is well documented that Club C has been my studio shoe for years and will continue to be,” says Winston. “Classic Leather is one of the more iconic silhouettes in trainer history. It’s understated but sharp and embodies the street.”
While Winston has worked on the Club C in the past, this new version features pops of navy on the sockliner, tongue tag, and outsole. Both silhouettes are equipped with a buttery leather upper in classic white and are stripped of the usual branding found inside the side window boxes. The majority of the branding that is present, like Winston’s signature on the heels, is subtle and tonal, or hidden on the underside of the translucent outsoles.
“The shoes are a story,” explains Winston. “I wanted to create sneakers that I would wear every day – no frills – that look good new or beat to the ground. I wanted to strip down the already stripped-down shoes I originally made with Reebok last year. I was thinking about white t-shirts and what really makes the perfect white tee. And then of course there are other subtle details that I’d like the consumer to discover.”
The accompanying campaign imagery showcases the connection between artist and athlete. “Classic Leather was shot at the small gym where I workout every morning, while Club C was captured in my studio,” says Winston. “My wife, Coco, shot everything. So, there’s an intimacy to the photos. I wanted to capture the beauty of my routine through the lens of the person I am closest to in life.”
