After teaming up on the Penny 2 in 2022, Stüssy and Nike are continuing their spotlight of retro basketball silhouettes with a collaboration on the Air Flight 89.
The Nike Air Flight 89 was originally released in 1989 in both High and Low form, and was known back then simply as the Nike Air Flight. This was the same year the Air Jordan 4 came out, and the wo silhouettes share similar design DNA. They feature the same sole unit, multi-channel lacelocks, as well as the same Air bubble on the heel. Ahead of its 35th anniversary in 2024, Stüssy and Nike are bringing back the Low version of the Air Flight 89, releasing it in three colorways.
The first colorway comes in white with red accents, the same color scheme as an original colorway from 1989 , which was worn by the likes of Scottie Pippen and Ron Harper. However, Stüssy has put its own twist on the OG, adding snakeskin detailing on the forefoot overlays. Stüssy will also be releasing its own version of the OG “Black/White” colorway (yet to be revealed), plus a brand new iteration dressed in white with pecan brown. All three come with “Air Stüssy” branding on the tongues, OG “Nike Air” on the heels, and Stüssy’s double S logo on the snakeskin flaps.
The Stüssy x Nike Flight 89 pack is expected to drop December 8th alongside a collection of apparel. Look for it to drop on stussy.com, SNKRS, and at select retailers. Grab an early look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
