Rough Simmons Channels Raf Simons with Akira-Themed Bomber Jacket

Originally emerging from a Raf Simons-focused Discord group, the label known as Rough Simmons is back with another design inspired by anime and archive fashion. This time, Rough Simmons uses the notorious FW 2001 “Riot Riot Riot” bomber by Raf Simons as inspiration for its new Neo-Tokyo Bomber Jacket.

The original Raf bomber from 2001 was popularly worn by Kanye West and was also worn by Drake in the Toosie Slide video. Simons took a standard issue military jacket and added patches that included David Bowie and Bauhaus. It marked a point when Raf Simons was forging the bridge between streetwear and high fashion that has largely led to the relationship we see today. Widely regarded as one of the ultimate grails, original jackets in good condition regularly sell for tens of thousands of dollars, if you can find one for sale. It’s not uncommon for prices to reach up to $50,000.

Rough Simmons took this inspiration to build the ideal anime equivalent. After releasing a green army camo version in November, a second black and white version has been created, updated with greyscale camo and even more denim patches with imagery from Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira. A heavy duty brass zipper, button closure on the front pockets and a zipper pocket on the left sleeve round out the jackets functional offerings.

The Black and White Neo-Tokyo Bomber Jacket is available now on the Rough Simmons website, priced at $650 USD. Each jacket is made to order and are expected to take up to 3 weeks for production.
