Nike’s introduction of the NEXT% series brought around momentous technological advancements across their running models. It was the technology that propelled Eliud Kipchoge to break the barrier of the 2 hour marathon. While keeping the form factor mostly intact, Nike continues to innovate with an update to the ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%.
Updates in the Vaporfly NEXT% 2 address durability and seek to increase the comfort of the runner. A new engineered upper introduced that is supposed to be softer and more breathable with the goal of keeping the foot cool on runs. Pockets of padding have been added to the tongue to relieve lace pressure and create a more comfortable fit. Finally the team added a reinforcement in the forefoot to increase the durability in high strike areas that typically wear down fast.
The 2nd iteration of the Vaporfly NEXT% isn’t all new. The full length carbon fiber foot plate, a wide forefoot midsole and lightweight ZoomX foam midsole still make up the bottom of the shoes. Deep longitudinal grooves on the outsole are still there to give you better traction in a variety of surfaces and conditions.
While a white colorway of the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% 2 has launched to Nike members in limited quantities, an Aqua colorway will see a wide release on March 25th at select retailers and on the Nike website.
