Earlier this year, Dapper Dan joined the PUMA team as a brand ambassador as part of “The Collective.” The Harlem-based fashion icon is now dropping his first collaborative collection with the brand, releasing exclusively via Kith.
First revealed during PUMA’s FUTROGRADE NYFW runway show, the collection is a tribute to ’80s hip-hop culture, throwing it back to the era when Dapper Dan first opened his NYC boutique to sell his bespoke designs, which was the same period when PUMA was becoming a streetwear staple.
PUMA x Dapper Dan combines PUMA’s sport heritage with Dapper Dan’s exquisite workmanship to create a luxury upcycled aesthetic, complemented with knitted materials, tailored styles, and elevated colors.
In classic Dapper Dan fashion, the collection debuts a co-designed monogram print called “Rudagon,” inspired by legacy logos and luxury design. The T7 Track Suit and PUMA Clyde come decked out in this print with rhinestone detailing adding to the lux aesthetic. Rounding out the offering is a blue velour stone-washed t-shirt. “DDP” branding appears throughout the collection, which is a combination of the designer and PUMA’s initials.
To celebrate the launch, Kith has reimagined the second floor of its SoHo Flagship into Dapper Dan’s iconic Harlem atelier. Directly inspired by Dapper Dan’s Lenox Ave. atelier, the space features a tailor’s worktable, mannequins, a fully functional garment wardrobe, and lounge seating. Dapper Dan himself will be at the space on Saturday, October 29th from 10-11am, available for pictures, signatures, and to discuss the collection.
