New MOBA “Pokémon UNITE” is Coming to Switch and Mobile

The Pokemon Company has revealed an upcoming free-to-start MOBA Pokémon UNITE during today’s Pokémon Presents broadcast presentation.

Borrowing some details from games like League of Legends, the gameplay includes teams of five battling to eliminate the opposing team members and their base. Gamers can choose from a roster of Pokémon favorites such as Snorlax, Gengar, Pikachu, Squirtle, Lucario, Charmander and many more. An official description of the game states, “During these battles, players will cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokemon, level up and evolve their own Pokemon…they will need to defeat their opponents’ Pokemon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.”

The battles will take place in real-time and as the player progresses through battles they will level up, learn new moves, and each Pokémon will learn a unique “Unite” move. Unlike the other Pokemon titles, there aren’t type advantages and the side that scores the most points by the end of the match wins.

Pokémon UNITE is the first strategic team battle game of the series. The game was developed by both TiMi Studios and Tencent Games – one of the world’s largest video game companies that partly owns other classics like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’sBattleGrounds. The title is free-to-start, with in-game add-ons that can purchased.

Although there is no current release date, Pokémon UNITE is currently in development for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Check out the official trailer below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for story updates.
