Jae Tips x Saucony Grid Shadow 2 Returns For Global Release

Earlier this year, New York-based artist Jae Tips put Saucony on a lot of people’s radars with the release of his first-ever sneaker collab, a colorful iteration of the Grid Azura 2000. Since it’s release, the “Remember Who Fronted” Azura has been receiving a ton of praise for its bold design, and has even been placed on some people’s “sneaker of the year” lists.

Jae Tips and Saucony have now launched their second project, and there’s no sophomore slumps here. The Bronx native first dropped the “What’s The Occasion?” Grid Shadow 2 at this year’s ComplexCon, followed by an online release on Jae Tips’ website that sold out in eight minutes. Luckily, there is still a global release on the way, giving fans one last shot at copping for retail.

On the Grid Shadow 2, Jae Tips continues to showcase his knack for color combinations and creating wearable pieces of art. The shoe is offered in two colorways: a blue and teal pair with “Wear To A Date” on the insoles, and a brown and red pair with “Wear To The Party” insoles. Both feature “Forever” embroidery on the lateral toe, Jae Tips’ brand “SAVIOR” on the lower heels, and flower motifs on the upper heels and tongues.

Leading up to the release, Jae Tips has been treating his followers to behind-the-scenes shots, adding a sense of transparency to the design process. One of the insights he shared is that while only two colorways will be releasing, three colorways were created during the sample process. The third pair comes in a pink and purple color scheme and is the “Wear To Dinner” colorway in the “What’s The Occasion?” trilogy. Unfortunately, there are currently no plans to release this pair. However, the Jae Tips and Saucony partnership will continue, as the two are gearing up to release their third project in 2024, this time on the ProGrid Omni 9 silhouette.

The global release for the Jae Tips x Saucony “What’s The Occasion?” Grid Shadow 2 is set for December 8th on the Saucony website and at select retailers worldwide. Check out both release colorways, the scrapped third colorway, and a teaser for the 2024 ProGrid Omni 9 below.
