In 2022, Bodega and ASICS dropped an ode to springtime in the form of a GEL-MC PLUS, dressing it warm pastel hues fitting for the season. With their next collab, the two are doing a 180 and going dark mode, offering something suited more for fall.
The days are getting shorter. Evenings darker. Leaves will soon be turning brown. The brightness of summer is coming to an end, but at least now that it’s getting colder we can really start dressin. Time to layer up in fall hues, and maybe some ASICS on-feet.
Bodega’s got you covered with the GEL-NYC “After-Hours.” The name of the model obviously comes from New York’s bustling metropolis, but Bodega used this opportunity to pay homage to city life in general, specifically city life in the grittier fall and winter seasons. Nubuck and hairy suede panels on the upper come dressed in brownish purple hues (officially named “Plum Truffle” and “Mole”) that represent the shades of faded asphalt under a streetlight. The grey mesh used for the base comes in a diamond pattern, representing chain link fences, while neon coral accents pop like the “OPEN” sign of your favorite diner. The stand-out detail, however, is the translucent and reflective ASICS stripe on the lateral. The criss-crossed lines already kind of look like highway roads, and with the execution on this pair, the stripes shine like the lights on speeding cars. Doesn’t matter if you’re from NYC… or from Boston like Bodega… or from Chicago like us, the “After-Hours” GEL-NYC is a tribute to the cities that raised us, even during the gloomy seasons.
