adidas Introduces the Stan Smith Mylo: Made From Mushrooms

0

Amid their sustainability efforts, adidas is revealing its first shoe made with a mushroom-based material. Combining a classic silhouette with revolutionary technology comes the Stan Smith Mylo.

The renewable material, named Mylo, covers the outer upper, Three Stripes, heel tab and branding. It gives a leather-like feel and appearance. Mylo is made from renewable mycelium (mushroom roots) that’re grown from vertical agricultural architecture. The shoe contributes to the adidas Regenerative Loop initiative which promises to create products “Made with Nature.”

Mylo can appear as any color, finish or emboss. However, for its debut, the Stan Smith model was chosen to build on its credential. The shoe features a creamy beige upper that sits on a natural rubber gum midsole. The Stan Smith portrait logo rounds out the branding with a tongue stamp.

The concept does receive partnership credit from Bolt Threads. The biotechnology company hopes to create the next generation of advanced materials. “We must learn to work with nature rather than against it and put all our efforts into finding innovative solutions that are created responsibly with resources that renew at a sustainable pace, designed in synergy with Earth’s ecosystem,” said Amy Jones Vaterlaus, Global Head of Future.

The adidas Stan Smith Mylo doesn’t have a release date just yet, but read more about it here. In related news, adidas has introduced new sustainable updates to the Ultraboost series.
