After unveiling its next-gen console earlier this year, Microsoft has revealed a smaller, budget-friendly version known as the Xbox Series S.
The Xbox Series S features a white sleek look that will deliver “next-gen performance in the smallest Xbox ever.” Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series S will retail for $299 USD which is a similar price as a Nintendo Switch or an older model Xbox One S. The console is rumored to have similar hardware as the Series X; however, with a less powerful CPU/GPU and no disc drive, but the console may be the cheapest way to play next-gen games.
The new console has a similar design to the Xbox One S with a large circular vent that most likely keeps the system cool. The Series S will also be a third of the volume of the Series X. According to Microsoft the console will target 1440p gaming at “up tp 120fps.” Some other key details to highlight are that the console features raytracing, variable-rate shading, variable refresh rate, and an ultra-low latency support, but all tied together with a 512 GB memory drive. The console can playback media in 4K and also upscale games to 4K.
This news came in the middle of the night in response to various leaks of the upcoming console. Check out the announcement post from Xbox below, as well as the trailer that goes into detail about the Xbox Series S’ specs. The console is slated for a November 10th release.
