Reebok and Japanese label SOUTH2 WEST8 have announced their first collaboration, teaming up on the Zig Kinetica II Edge.
Founded in 2002 by Kaname Nagaoka, SOUTH2 WEST8 specializes in gear for tenkara, a Japanese form of fly fishing. As the brand is known for its functional-yet-fashionable outdoor apparel, the trail-inspired Zig Kinetica II Edge is an appropriate choice for this collaboration.
“We were inspired by a visual of an outdoor field colliding with an urban city and the idea of linking the two,” says SOUTH2 WEST8’s brand director. “SOUTH2 WEST8 holds little interest in designs that are overly sophisticated or high-tech, in favor of those that are athletically functional. In this respect, the Zig design aptly maintains its functionality, while possessing decorative and assertive elements with great visual volume and presence. These characteristics make it a perfect match for SOUTH2 WEST8 wear.”
SOUTH2 WEST8’s signature Horn Camo covers the shoe’s jacquard upper, complemented by teal suede overlays. Additional features include a spiky rubber toe cap, dual heel loops, a Floatride Fuel-cushioned midsole, and a Vibram Ecostep lugged outsole made with 30% pre-consumer recycled material. The SOUTH2 WEST8 logo appears on the tongue tags, insoles, and the lateral toe.
