Shoe Palace’s story began in 1993 when the Mersho family opened their first brick and mortar location in San Jose, California. 30 years later, the Shoe Palace brand is bigger than ever, with over 160 locations across the United States. To celebrate Shoe Palace’s 30 years in business, New Balance has created a special “30th Anniversary” makeup of the 2002R that pays homage to Shoe Palace’s Bay Area roots.
At a glance, this 2002R is as neutral as they come. Panels of mesh and leather are dressed in a mix of white, grey, and slate, inspired by the Bay Area’s rugged terrain and rocky textures. Insoles come in eucalyptus green to match the locale’s trees and features a maze-like print that nods to the Bay’s secret labyrinth.
The real fun, however, is all in the laces. The shoe comes with three lace options: white to keep the neutral look, pink for a pop inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge’s vibrant hues, or blue for a cool hue inspired by the Pacific Ocean.
