Founded by Alex Haddad and Skylar Newman in 2020, Praying has quickly become a cult-favorite label, loved by celebrities such as Rosalía, Megan Thee Stallion, and Olivia Rodrigo, as well as your average NYC fashionista. Fans love the brand’s Y2K/early internet aesthetic, its sexy, flirtatious, yet sarcastic and cheeky approach to marketing, and the simple messages printed across the apparel offerings in basic font. Praying is now continuing its rise, entering the sneakersphere with a collaboration with adidas.
Praying and adidas have teamed up up to release a collaboration on the Supernova Cushion 7, an archival runner silhouette. It comes equipped with a white mesh with Praying in large blue font, reminiscent of unclicked hyperlinks of a late ’90s/early ’00s webpage. This is paired with grey overlays, white FORMOTION EVA midsoles, and a transparent section of outsole with Praying-branded print.
Not everyone is a fan of Praying. Mainstreet media has attacked Praying (and adidas by association) for its “Holy Trinity” white bikini, which reads “Father” and “Son” on the cups and “Holy Ghost” on the crotch. Outrage reached an all-time high on August 6th when social media star Addison Rae posted a photo of herself wearing the “Holy Trinity” bikini as part of the Praying x adidas campaign. The photo has since been deleted from all parties’ social media accounts, though Praying has since posted photos of other people wearing the “Holy Trinity” bikini, likely as a troll for the haters.
