Tinker Hatfield has designed some of Nike’s most iconic footwear models across multiple categories. In basketball, there’s his contributions to Air Jordan series as well as the Air Raid. Then there’s the cross trainers and tennis court models like the Air Trainer 1, Air Oscillate, and Air Tech Challenge 2. The latest Tinker Hatfield-designed model features DNA from both of these lineages.
Official images of a new model called the Nike Zoom Court Dragon have surfaced. At first glance, the shoe reminds us of the Air Raid, an outdoor basketball shoe with the same cross straps across the midfoot. Other defining features on the low-top model include a scaly textured overlay, ballistic mesh toe box, padded ankle collar, and thick midsole. On the tongue is a new logo that combines the Swoosh with a circle with a line in the middle, similar to what you would find on a basketball court. Tinker’s signature appears under this logo.
Nike made it a point to include a photo of the “SAMPLE” marking on the sockliner in the official images of this black and red colorway, so it is possible that this will be included in the final release. This may be a nod to the countless samples that Tinker Hatfield has designed over the years.
