Original Story (11/17/23): Nike and Vanessa Bryant continue to keep the legacy of Kobe and Gianna Bryant alive with special releases, this time in the form of a two-pack of Kobe 8 Protros dubbed the “2-8-24” pack.
These pairs of Kobe 8s feature a white engineered mesh upper covered in a repeating graphic print of the numbers 2, 8, and 24. These numbers represent the numbers that Gigi and Kobe wore on the court, the number 2 worn by Gigi, and the numbers 8 and 24 worn by Kobe during his 20-season career with the Lakers. One of these colorways feature Court Purple accents, the other Radiant Emerald. These pops of color appear on the graphic print, as well as on the embroidered swoosh, translucent outsoles, laces, and the Kobe sheath logo found on the tongues and heels.
Fittingingly, the Nike Kobe 8 Protro “2-8-24” pack is slated to release on February 8, 2024. Expect these to drop on SNKRS and at select retailers. There will also be more celebrations of the life and legacy of Kobe and Gianna taking place on this date, including the unveiling of a new memorial statue outside of Crypto.com Arena. Update (02/01/24): The Nike Kobe 8 Protro “2-8-24” pack has been loaded onto SNKRS. Based on the descriptions, the “Court Purple” colorway is inspired by Kobe’s in-season flow, while the “Aqua” represents Kobe’s off-season flow. Official images below.
