A poppy-seed bun, yellow mustard, chopped white onions, bright green sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomatoes, sport peppers, a dash of celery salt, and NO KETCHUP. This is what you get when you order a Chicago-style hot dog.
But what does Chicago-style mean when it comes to sports? Nike answered this question with their latest iteration of their Sport Changes Everything campaign, a “Chicago Style” ad that aired during the Saints vs Bears NFL game.
The commercial pays homage to the city’s professional athletes and cultural influencers of the past and present, but also highlights local high school teams and individuals in the city that are using sports to change their city for the better. These individuals include:
McKinley Nelson: founder of Project sWish Chicago, which is committed to the betterment of Chicago’s inner city youth by reconnecting them to basketball.

Ixhelt Gonzalez: Member of the U.S. women’s wheelchair basketball team. The youngest to ever do it, joining the team at the age of 13.

Monyett Crump: Founder of REVEAL Dance Chicago who is working to strengthen the local dance community by empowering students to recognize their full potential.

Nike has also brought this ad to life, converting Lulu’s Hot Dogs (1000 S. Leavitt St.) on the city’s west side into a “Chicago-Style” Pop-Up Diner, complete with a basketball court and activity space in the parking lot.
The pop-up will be used to host various activations for young community members, which will allow those in attendance to celebrate the power of sports and be inspired by local sports stars and the young community leaders featured in the ad. Activities will include dance parties, pick-up games, tailgates, food specials, merchandise drops, shoe trialings, athlete appearances and more. Consumers will be able to enjoy Lulu’s regular menu during the duration of the pop-up.
The Nike “Chicago-Style” Pop-Up Diner will operate through November 4th. For more info, visit nike.com/chicago. Check out the photos of the space below.
