Nike Air Max 95 “Neon” Returns With OG Big Bubble

As Nike celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Air Max 95 in 2025, it’s only right that they bring back the silhouette’s original “Neon” colorway in true-to-OG form.

Originally released in 1995, the Air Max 95 “Neon” is one of Nike’s greatest sneakers of all time. It was designed by Sergio Lozano, who drew inspiration from both nature and human anatomy when creating the classic silhouette. On one rainy day in Oregon, Lozano envisioned the rain eroding layers of soil, birthing the idea of the gradient layers that make up the uppers of the Air Max 95. The shoe’s design also pulled from the complexities of the human body: the nylon eyelets represent the rib cage, the shank along the outsole and heel represents the spine, the wavy side panels represent muscle fibers, and the Air units represent the lungs.

During the early years of the Air Max 95, the shoe featured a large Air unit on the heel, though it was replaced with a smaller Air unit around 2003. The original pressurized cushion units were filled with harmful greenhouse gases, so smaller units filled with nitrogen were used instead to reduce environmental impact. For the 30th anniversary celebration in 2025, the original big bubble returns to the Air Max 95, with the big bubble version labeled as the Air Max 95 OG.

To drum up excitement, Nike released a limited amount of pairs of the Air Max 95 OG “Neon” early at Blue Room, a vintage shop in Tokyo, paying homage to the hype the shoe had in Japan when it first released.

The Nike Air Max 95 OG “Neon” is slated to drop globally April 4th at select retailers. In the US, most of the stockists are located in major cities (Chicago, NYC, LA) and along the I-95 corridor on the East Coast. While it’s unknown exactly how many pairs Nike made, it is rumored that this AM95 OG “Neon” will be highly limited. However, a wider release is expected to place in 2026.
