New Balance Outfits the X-Racer with Cargo Pockets

New Balance has announced a heavy-duty reworking of their popular and rugged X-Racer trail runner.

Swapping out ripstop and synthetics for a sturdy leather upper, the New Balance X-Racer Utility features the X-Racer’s signature aggressive toe paneling. The most notable detail, however, is the two sizeable pockets strapped to the side of each shoe. The lateral side of each shoe features a pocket fastened over the traditional New Balance N logo, while the medial side of the shoe places a pocket closer to the wearer’s ankle. The medial sides of each shoe also feature a zip near the eyestays, possibly giving the wearer even more storage options.

The shoe’s beefy, maximalist upper sits atop New Balance’s signature ABZORB midsole and an aggressive, toothed outsole for trail-ready traction. The model is finished off by an X-RACER branded tongue tab and a triple-loop heel tab.

The New Balance X-Racer Utility is set to arrive in simple black, beige, and white colorways via New Balance Japan for about $165 USD on March 27th. There’s no word on a stateside release just yet but stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, you can check out photos of the model down below.
