Many fondly remember the ’90s as the golden era of the NBA, as well as the golden age as video games. New Balance’s basketball division is celebrating NBA All-Star Weekend this year with the launch of a nostalgic “Gamer Tag” collection inspired by ’90s gaming.
This collection is comprised of three NB basketball models: a red TWO WXY v4, a purple Fresh Foam BB v2, and a green Hesi Low. These colors draw inspiration from video game hardware of the ’90s (remember how many colors the N64 came in?). Each pair comes with red, blue, yellow, and green accents, reminiscent of the bright colors found on video game controllers. Each pair also features video game-inspired details, such as the pixelated N logo on the Fresh Foam BB v2, the “Press Start” motif on the TWO WXY v4, and the controller buttons on the Hesi Lows. Releasing alongside these three pairs is three retro gaming-inspired graphic tees.
