Maison Margiela and Reebok made headlines last year with the unveiling of their Classic Leather Tabi shoe. This time around, the two are back with a new iteration, the Classic Leather Tabi Décortiqué Low.
Using Reebok’s Classic Leather running sneaker as a canvas, Maison Margiela revamps the 1983 silhouette through the luxury lens. Margiela’s décortiqué technique refers to Creative Director John Galliano’s concept of deconstructing a garment to its core structure. The skeleton of the piece, or the architectural framework rather, gives way to its authenticity and individualism.
The new silhouette, a low-top version of the Classic Leather Tabi High introduced in June 2021, combines the Classic Leather silhouette with the toe of Maison Margiela’s signature Tabi shoe from 1988. It uses the décortiqué technique to add cut-away panels on the fabric lining to resemble caging. The collab launches in black, white, and red leather colorways, as well as in the French house’s ‘bianchetto’ style. The latter is hand-painted in white and purposely chips with wear to expose the black leather underneath.
The Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi Décortiqué Low will drop on Reebok.com and the Maison Margiela website on January 28th, along with at select MM stores.
