Original Story (07/31/20): Before Michael Jordan laced up the Air Jordan 1s in 1985, the soon-to-be GOAT wore the Nike Air Ships. These almost mythical kicks only just recently returned for this year’s All-Star Weekend in a white and red colorway. Now, the Air Ship is back in the OG “Bred” colorway that was famously “Banned” by the NBA during MJ’s rookie year.
Unlike the Nike Air Ship that released earlier this year, the Jordan Air Ship Pro “Banned” is the same version of the shoe that Michael Jordan wore during the 1984-85 season, though with some slight changes. It features Air Jordan branding on the heel instead of Nike Air. React foam is used for the cushioning, a technology that did not exist until 2017.
Italy’s Back Door Bottega will be the first to release the Nike Air Ship Pro “Banned.” According to the boutique’s website, those who wish to enter their in-store raffle must find one of the 150 stickers containing the QR Code that have been placed around the town of Bologna. Check out Backdoor’s teaser video and photos of the shoe down below. In-store raffle closes on August 6th. Stay tuned for global raffle info.
