Jah Jah x Salomon ACS Pro “Kankourang”

Salomon has accumulated a diverse list of collaborators over the years. Take for instance Jah Jah, an Afro-vegan restaurant slash creative studio located in Paris’ 10th arrondissement. Founded in 2017 by Coralie Jouhier and Daquisiline Gomis, Jah Jah first linked up with Salomon earlier this year on the RX Moc 3.0, dressing its sock-like upper in red, green, and yellow to pay homage to African and Caribbean communities across the world. The two are now back with another project, this time taking on the ACS Pro silhouette.

Jah Jah uses this Salomon collab as an opportunity to explore the West African tradition known as Kankourang. Kankourang is a coming-of-age ritual practiced most commonly in Senegal. Children are initiated into adulthood through a ceremony that revolves around a mystical entity, also called Kankourang, covered in fibers extracted from red tree bark. Kankourang is said to bring order and justice and protect against evil spirits. As such, he ensures that all of the knowledge of the elders is safely passed down to the next generation.

The Jah Jah ACS Pro comes dressed in an earthy brown hue across its leather and mesh upper. Like on the RX Moc 3.0, we also see the Pan-African colors on the ACS Pro, reappearing on the tongue strip that runs down the center of the shoe’s Quicklace system. The shoe’s campaign is centered around a child undergoing the Kankourang ritual and going on an inner journey.
