Fendi has teamed up with Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment Design to release a special collection with Pokémon in honor of the upcoming Year of the Dragon in 2024.
Dropping as part of the luxury brand’s “Friends of Fendi” series, the project stars the fan-favorite Dragon-type Pokémon Dragonite alongside its pre-evolutions, Dratini and Dragonair. The collection is comprised primarily of bags, small leather goods, and other accessories adorned with Fendi’s iconic FF jacquard logo. Fendi’s leather artisans have also crafted a Dragonite figure wearing its own silk FF foulard as a collector’s item. This piece required more than 30 hours of manual workmanship to create.
Apparel pieces include hoodies, tees, and hats. These wearables will also be available as digital avatar items in the mobile game Pokémon Go.
“I first met Hiroshi Fujiwara in London in 1999 — and what can I say? He’s one of my idols and I love him,” says Kim Jones, Fendi’s artistic director of couture and womenswear. “He’s an instigator of the Japanese club scene, its youth fashion scene and its streetwear scene. I have been in love with Japan for a long time; its influence on me and what I do is huge — Hiroshi is a major part of that.”
While this is Fendi’s first Pokémon collab, Hiroshi Fujiwara has a long-standing partnership with the franchise. Together, FRGMT and Pokémon have released various collaborations under the “Thunderbolt Project” moniker.
The Fendi x FRGMT x Pokémon “Year of the Dragon” collection will be available starting January 4, 2024 at select Fendi boutiques and on fendi.com. Check out pieces from the collection down below.
