It’s a new era for Bad Bunny. Not only did he recently drop a new album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, he is now also adding a new silhouette to his lineup of adidas collaborations.
After dropping his own modern reinterpretation of the SL 72, the Puerto Rican superstar is once again diving into the adidas archives with the introduction of the adidas Ballerina. Its sleek, low-profile design closely resembles the the adidas Taekwondo, a women’s lifestyle silhouette introduced in 2019, which itself pays homage to adidas footwear from the 2000s designed specifically for martial arts (such as the SM-II).
Just like a dancer’s shoe, the adidas Taekwondo was designed for smooth pivots, flexibility, and quick footwork. The split sole found on both the Taekwondo and Ballerina allows for free movement of the forefoot and heel, though it is also fashion-forward, seen previously on the adidas Mei that Yohji Yamomoto included in the Y-3 line in the early 2000s. Meanwhile, the narrow uppers on the Ballerina are designed to hug and secure your foot, and the addition of bungee-style laces provides additional lockdown support.
The Bad Bunny Ballerina makes its debut in a “Bold Gold” colorway, featuring textile uppers with suede overlays and black leather side stripes. “benito” branding appears on the side panels, while “adidas PARA BAD BUNNY” stamped on the forefoot section of the midsole. The shoe also features the size tag on the outside of the heel, which first appeared on the Bad Bunny Gazelle.
