The China-Inspired Air Jordan 7 Gets a US Release Date

0

Original Story (08/05/20): Jordan Brand is set to release a stunning Air Jordan 7 inspired by the Beijing’s Forbidden City that pays tribute to it legions of fans in Greater China.

While the model uses classic Jordan colors, its details and patterning are unlike anything in recent memory from the brand. The shoe is asymmetrical: The medial sides of each shoe are bathed in colorful cloud patterns inspired by the Forbidden City’s stone carvings. While the lateral sides of the shoe are relatively plain at first glance, the paneling on each shoe comes in a black and white “yin and yang” motif. One of the most exciting details on the shoe, however, comes in the tonal dragon slithering down the outside of the shoe and onto the toebox.

The shoe’s detailing continues with Michael Jordan’s name and number rendered in Chinese characters on the tongue, as well as a #9 character on the heel (a reference to both a symbol of greatness and Michael’s jersey number in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics). The outsole also uses glow-in-the-dark material for radiance day or night, and the whole package comes in an extremely special-edition box stamped with the same tongue badge found on the shoe.

For now, the shoe appears to be dropping exclusively on SNKRS China for $200 USD on August 7th. A wider release outside of China is unlikely, but stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for any updates.

Update (08/28/20): Following its China debut, the Air Jordan 7 GC “Chile Red” receives a stateside release via Nike SNKRS on September 5th.
