Closer Look at the 2024 Air Jordan 11 “Legend Blue”

Original Story (06/03/24): The holiday season is a special time for Jordan fans. Every year around December, Jordan Brand brings back the Air Jordan 11. Sometimes it’s a new colorway, other times it’s a retro of a previous release. For 2024, we are getting a retro, but not just any retro. It’s the return of the OG “Legend Blue,” aka “Columbia” colorway.

The Air Jordan 11 “Columbia” originally released in 1996 after is was debuted by Michael Jordan at the ’96 NBA All-Star Game. The colorway pays homage to MJ’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina. It has been retro’d two times since its original release, once in 2001 and then again in 2014 with the name “Legend Blue.” It is believed that the name change is due to the “Columbia” name being trademarked by Columbia Sportswear.

Like the OGs and subsequent retros, the 2024 Air Jordan 11 “Legend Blue” comes equipped with a white leather upper and matching white patent leather mudguard. Pops of blue are found on the Jumpman logo on the ankle, the tongue strip, and the translucent icy sole.

This 2024 retro is more true to the OG than previous retro for a number of reasons. The 2001 retro had a clear outsole instead of a blue tint. It also had a lower-cut patent leather than the OG. The 2014 retro had the Jumpman logo facing the opposite direction. These issues have been corrected on the 2024 version.
