Jordan Brand Kicks Off 2025 “Rare Air” Series

Jordan Brand introduces its “Rare Air” series for 2025 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Air Jordan 1.

“Rare Air” pays homage to the sampling process during the early days of Air Jordan, where details such as logo placements were still being ironed out. Imperfect samples from this era have become highly sought-after and are considered grails among collectors. The Jordan Brand “Rare Air” series repurposes the “mistakes” found on early samples and turns them into heritage-inspired design cues for the modern era.

The 2025 “Rare Air” series kicks off with two colorways of the Air Jordan 1 High OG: a men’s “Royal” colorway and a women’s “Cinnabar” colorway. Both feature an early version of the Jordan Wings logo created by Peter Moore, which reads “Nike Air” instead of “Air Jordan.” On the “Royal” colorway, this prototype logo is featured on the lateral ankle collar of the left shoe, while the right shoe features the standard “Air Jordan” version. Meanwhile, the “Cinnabar” colorway features printed-on logos with no embossing, displaying the standard Wings logo in red on the lateral and the “Nike Air” version in black on the medial.

The “Royal” colorway includes black “brush-off” Swoosh logos that change color with wear, while mismatched packaging adds to the imperfect aesthetic. Meanwhile, the “Cinnabar” colorway features suede Swooshes, single-stitched overlays, and comes equipped with two sets of laces, one in fuzzy white and another in dyed red. Both pairs feature blue Nike-branded tongue tags and blue “Rare Air” branded insoles.

These 2025 Air Jordan 1s are not the first time that Jordan Brand has used the “Rare Air” theme. In 2015-2017, a series of “Rare Air” Jordan 1s were released featuring “Air Jordan” branding instead of the Wings logo, a nod to Peter Moore’s early prototype of the Black Toe Jordan 1. This story was revisited earlier this year on the AJ1 “Black Toe Reimagined.” The 2025 “Rare Air” series will also include an Air Jordan 3, Air Jordan 4, and Air Jordan 11.

Both colorways of the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Rare Air” drop April 4th on SNKRS and at select retailers in full family sizing. Check them out below.
