adidas Pulsebeat SPZL Revisits Joy Division ‘Unknown Pleasures’ Artwork

0

After launching a collaboration with Liam Gallagher, adidas Spezial curator Gary Aspden has teamed up with British graphic designer Peter Saville to introduce the adidas Pulsebeat SPZL, a visceral collision of football, music, and fashion.

Since the release of the Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures in 1979, the iconic cover artwork designed by Saville has held a special place in the cultural zeitgeist. For this new collaboration with adidas Spezial, Seville has infused the visual with new meaning, using biometric data from the men’s and women’s teams of Manchester United Football Club to redraw the artworks signature waveforms: Pulsebeat.

The Pulsebeat SPZL uses the Blackburn SPZL silhouette as its base, dressing it in black-on-black with suede uppers, detailed with reflective 3-Stripes on one side and flock 3-Stripes on the other. Saville’s Pulsebeat artwork appears on the shoe’s tongue, insoles, leather hangtag, and packaging.

The Peter Saville x adidas Pulsebeat SPZL drops on Monday, September 26th on adidas CONFIRMED, though it is already available at select overseas stockists. Check out the photos below.
