In a recent earnings call, Nike CEO John Donahoe stated that “it’s going to be an exciting summer” as the company “set[s] the stage to relaunch the Kobe brand in advance of Kobe Day on August 24th.” This news brought much joy to fans of Nike Kobe sneakers, as there has been a long drought due to contract negotiations between the Swoosh and Kobe Bryant’s estate. Luckily, in March of 2022, these negotiations were settled, and Nike resumed production of its beloved Kobe sneakers.
Since then, the Swoosh has released two Nike Kobe sneakers, the “Mambacita Sweet 16” Kobe 6 and the “Mambacita” Kobe 4, with the “Halo” Kobe 8 set to release August 23rd on what would have been Kobe’s 45th birthday. These tribute colorways to Kobe and Gigi will soon be followed by a plethora of more Kobe drops, with the most highly-anticipated probably being the Kobe 6 “Reverse Grinch.”
The original “Grinch” Kobe 6, first released in 2010 and retro’d in 2020, is one of the most popular basketball sneakers of all time and is commonly seen on court during NBA games. As the name implies, the “Reverse Grinch” takes the festive green/red colorway and inverses it to a primarily red shoe with green accents. This colorway was first teased by Anthony Davis during an IG Live in 2021 and then debuted it on court a year later. The general public will soon be able to rock them too, as Nike is set to release the shoe this holiday season.
The Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Reverse Grinch” is expected to drop on December 16th on SNKRS and at select retailers. Check out photos of the 2023 release below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
