Kiko Kostadinov, Heaven by Marc Jacobs, and ASICS have teamed up to introduce a new women’s silhouette called the GEL-LOKROS.
The GEL-LOKROS is inspired by Y2K fashion and the classic Mary Jane, a closed toe, low-cut shoe with one or more straps across the forefoot that has been around for over a century. While Mary Janes are traditionally constructed from leather, Kiko Kostadinov womenswear creative directors Laura and Deanna Fanning opted for a quilted upper embroidered with Heaven’s star motif for a more playful look. The design team also went crazy with the straps (we count 12 on each shoe). Most of them are elastic, though two of them are leather with a buckle that allows for belt-like adjusting. These two straps also form the vertical stripes of the ASICS logo on the side panels. Underfoot, the upper is paired with a FlyteFoam midsole seen previously on the Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS GEL-KIRIL, plus an outsole with floral pattern traction. The shoe comes in three colorways: Washed Gunmetal, Cosmic Purple, and Aquamarine.
The campaign for this collaboration was shot by John Yoyi and stars model Kiko Mizuhara (and a rat). This Kiko x Kiko crossover may seem familiar, as it happened once before when Kiko Kostadinov dropped its collaboration with Hysteric Glamour. While the previous campaign was shot in streets of Tokyo, this latest one was shot in NYC, with imagery captured in Times Square and in subway cars.
The Kiko Kostadinov x Heaven x ASICS GEL-LOKROS launches Thursday, February 22nd on the Heaven by Marc Jacobs website, kikokostadinov.com, and via Dover Street Market. A global release will follow on March 7th at select retailers and ASICS.com. Check out all three colorways and the campaign images below.
