It’s officially been two years since NIGO took over as artistic director of KENZO. To celebrate, the fashion house has launched its first ever sneaker collab with ASICS: three colorways of the GEL-KAYANO 20.
All three pairs of the KENZO x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 20 were designed by NIGO and pay homage to KENZO’s colorful heritage. The “Multicolor” pair is inspired by KENZO’s concept of travel and comes dressed in a vivid mix of colors pulled from national flags. Blue, green, pink, yellow and orange hues dress the tile-shaped panels across the upper, while a sporty white covers the tongues, midsoles, and sidestripes.
The other two colorways, “Off White” and “Cyan,” are covered in a tiger print inspired by KENZO’s iconic tiger graphic. The “Off White” pair features this pattern in white and grey, complemented by gold and silver accents. Meanwhile, the “Cyan” colorway goes bold with its faux fur construction and blue and green color scheme. All three pairs feature the KENZO logo on the left tongue tag and the standard ASICS label on the right. KENZO branding also appears on the toe overlay.
This is not the only footwear project NIGO has in store for 2024. The Japanese designer came out the finale of his KENZO FW24 Paris Fashion Week show wearing a red NIGO x Nike tee, confirming the rumors that a Swoosh collab is on the way. It appears NIGO’s first Nike collab will be on the Air Force 3, a shoe he was spotted rocking back in November.
The online raffles for the KENZO x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 20 in all three colorways are open now on the KENZO website and close on January 23rd at 5pm CST. A global release is set for January 26th on ASICS.com, at KENZO stores, and via select retailers. Check out all three pairs below.
