Since 2020, Japanese label AURALEE has been applying its sophisticated, minimalism-inspired design approach to New Balance silhouettes, treating us to a new release every season. After working on ’70s inspired silhouettes for FW22 and SS23 — the XC-72 and RC30 — AURALEE now shifts gears to a more modern silhouette, the 1906R.
New Balance first introduced the 1906R in 2020, offering an updated version of the original 1906 that launched in 2009 as a premier running shoe. Now equipped with a sole unit borrowed from the 860v2, the 1906R has seen great success as a lifestyle offering, benefitting from the increased popularity of mesh-based running silhouettes in today’s market.
First revealed during AURALEE’s FW23 Paris Fashion Week show back in January, the AURALEE x New Balance 1906R comes in two tonal colorways. The first is dressed in neutral beige hues with a touch of soft green on the terry cloth sockliner, while the second is dressed completely in a greyish blue that gives the shoe an overdyed effect. Additional details include co-branded tongue badges and white waxed outsoles for a distressed, lived-in look.
