Following its launch in the orange “With Love” colorway in December, the adidas AE 1 is now set to release in its second colorway: “New Wave.”
Anthony Edwards has been rocking this blue colorway of his signature basketball shoe throughout the season and first unveiled them during NBA Media Day back in September. The name “New Wave” is likely a nod to Edwards’ catchphrase “Don’t Follow The Wave,” a message to the youth to create their own path instead of following trends. “Don’t Follow the Wave” is also the name of Edwards’ community initiative that was announced when he signed his 5-year contract extension with the Timberwolves this past summer. The program targets underserved youth in the local Minnesota community and helps set them on the right path.
In terms of tech specs, the AE 1 is equipped with a Generative Support Wing on the upper. This TPU overlay with hexagonal windows provides stability and containment, while also allowing for midfoot breathability. It also features full-length TPU-encased Jet Boost technology on the midsole, which is paired with smaller energy capsules fused together for greater energy return and cushion. Lastly, the outsole features an enlarged herringbone pattern for traction.
The adidas AE 1 “New Wave” drops January 25th on adidas.com and at select retailers including Foot Locker, Champs Sports, and Kids Foot Locker. Check out the official images and campaign video below.
