The OG Air Jordan 1 “Black Toe” is next up to get the Reimagined treatment from Jordan Brand.
The “Black Toe Reimagined” Air Jordan 1 won’t have a vintage look like the Lost & Founds or switch up the materials like the Reimagined Bred 4s. Instead, the design pays homage to the very first Air Jordan 1 ever made, the one that started it all.
After signing his deal with Nike in 1984, MJ flew to Beaverton for a photoshoot to promote the Air Jordan 1. Draped over Mike’s shoulder was an early sample of the Air Jordan 1 in the “Black Toe” colorway. Differences in this sample versus the 1985 retail release include a black nylon tongue instead of white and AIR JORDAN text in capital letters on the lateral ankle instead of the iconic Wings logo. MJ would go on to wear this sample version in his rookie season with the Bulls.
Forty years later, this early sample serves as the basis for the 2024 “Black Toe Reimagined” Jordan 1. Along with the black tongue and AIR JORDAN text, the pair also features “My very best” and Michael Jordan’s signature on the medial ankle collar. This detail is copied from a pair that His Airness signed and gifted to his close friend David Bridgers after he wore them in a game.
The storytelling continues on the shoe’s packaging. The box comes printed with a picture of MJ from his first Nike campaign photoshoot, while the underside of the lid features a Wings logo with “Special Attention: M. Jordan” in cursive handwriting under it. Additionally, the wrapping paper inside the box is adorned with polaroids of MJ from his early days with Nike, as well as with different iterations of the Wings logo and the infamous Air Jordan text.
