Original Story (11/06/23): “Still we rise. From dusk til dawn, we carry on…”
A Ma Maniére, the experiential concept boutique from James Whitner’s The Whitaker Group, has officially unveiled its next project with Jordan Brand, the Air Jordan 5 “From Dusk Til Dawn” pack.
Similar to its predecessors, the AMM x Air Jordan 5 arrives with a story rooted in the Black experience. Pulling inspiration from the Maya Angelou poem, “Still I Rise,” the project highlights how Black culture is celebrated and praised, while Black people themselves are marginalized. However, in spite of adversity, the Black community remains resilient. James Whitner explains below:
“Black identity is not a monolith, the Black experience isn’t uniform and we are unified in more ways than the world wants us to believe when it stands to divide us. More than ever, this is a moment to open up our arms, bring us all in, across our communities and the globe, to celebrate unity and culture. Being desired for your culture while never being told that you belong leaves its marks. But yet we rise, we shine, we thrive and still show up to do the work, wherever we are – from dusk til dawn..”
The A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 5 “Still we rise – from dusk til dawn” story is told in two parts: a light grey “Dawn” colorway with blue accents and a black “Dusk” colorway with touches of burgundy. Both are crafted with premium nubuck and feature unique details: A Ma Maniére badging on the tongue and outsole, a one-of-a-kind A Ma Maniére monogram pattern for the iconic AJV cage, and a custom sockliner with a jacquard monogram pattern. The shoes come in custom packaging and with extra cream and white laces in addition to the tonal black and grey for each pair.
The A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 5 will launch with the “Dawn” colorway on November 17th at 11am EST via A Ma Maniére. EQL raffles are now open from each Whitaker Group retailer (A Ma Maniére, Social Status, APB). The release details for the “Dusk” colorway have yet to be announced, but expect them to drop in the coming days. Update (11/14/23): A release date for the “Dusk” colorway has been announced, dropping November 24th via A Ma Maniére with raffles now open. Meanwhile, the “Dawn” colorway will be receiving a wider release, dropping November 27th on SNKRS and select retailers. Also, check out the accompanying short film below.
