A$AP Mob has celebrated the life of their late co-founder, Steven “A$AP Yams” Rodriguez, every year since 2016 without missing a beat since he passed away on January 18th, 2015 at the age of 26. Getting bigger and bigger every year, Yams Day 2020 featured performances from Tyler, The Creator, Metro Boomin, NAV, Sheck Wes, and more at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many were concerned with how they would pay tribute to Yam’s legacy this year, some speculating that they’d cancel the entire event. However, the hip-hop collective has announced that Yams Day 2021 will be virtually streamed on January 18th.
A minute-long trailer was posted on each member’s Instagram account as well as yamsday.com, featuring A$AP Rocky running around NYC hyping up the event while asking random pedestrians if they’re planning on attending. The trailer also teases an award show, The Yammys, where they will be giving out awards to artists “who we [A$AP Mob] and the people feel honestly earned and deserved it,” as Rocky tweeted.
