Original Story (08/05/24): Nike SB is dropping a new Dunk Low in collaboration with the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
In 2015, Nike SB paid homage to The Wizard of Oz with a trio of releases inspired by the film. This included a “Dorothy” Dunk Low, a “Tin Man” Dunk High, and a red patent leather Dunk Low inspired by Dorothy’s ruby red slippers. Almost a decade later, the Wizard of Oz theme is back, this time as an official collaboration between MGM and Nike SB.
The 2024 Wizard of Oz x Nike SB Dunk Low features a floral textile upper, inspired by the poppy field that put Dorothy, Toto, and the Cowardly Lion to sleep. The rest of the shoe features bright red accents inspired by Dorothy’s red slippers. This includes the leather Swoosh, the satin sockliner, and the rubber outsole.
Additional features include The Wizard of Oz branding on the tongue tags, Dorothy’s famous “There’s No Place Like Home” quote on the heels, and graphic insoles featuring the Wicked Witch of the West. Also, the floral upper is believed to be tear-away, revealing a hidden layer underneath after enough skate sessions.
