Wales Bonner and adidas Originals are back with a new collaboration.
After dropping the SS24 “Rift Valley Runners” collection back in May, Grace Wales Bonner and the Three Stripes continue to pay homage to East African runners by bringing back a piece of running footwear history, the adidas Adios Neftenga.
The shoe was custom-made by adidas for Ethiopian runner Haile Gebrselassie, who debuted the long-distance running shoe at the 2008 Berlin Marathon. It was at this event where Gebrselassie finished with a time of 2:03:59, breaking his own world record from the year prior by 29 seconds.
While the adidas Neftenga never released to the public, the shoe is now being introduced as a lifestyle model through this collaboration with Wales Bonner. The WB version features the same yellow and black color scheme as the original, with the most notable difference being the added Wales Bonner branding on the tongues and insoles.
