Village Psychic, the Brooklyn-based skateboarding media outlet founded by Mike Burrill and Spencer Gillespie, has launched its first-ever sneaker in collaboration with New Balance Numeric.
The shoe is VP’s own iteration of Tiago Lemos’ pro model, the 1010, featuring grey mesh, brown fuzzy suede for NYC’s unpredictable spring weather, and blue accents. After workshopping several color scenarios with the NB Numeric design team, Village Psychic landed on a color scheme inspired by the J.Crew x New Balance 998 “Pebble Blue” from 2013. According to VP, they chose this color scheme because it “looks like the platonic ideal of New Balance shoe: on the dressier side of sporty, with a distinctive color palette that’s overall understated but still eye-catching from far away.”

Another source of inspiration for the shoe was the concept of “forest magic.” The earthy palette and fuzzy materials are meant to evoke the feeling of a dark forest in a fantasy world, where VP’s wizard gnome mascot would reside. To honor this connection, friends-and-family pairs of the shoes come with a miniature gnome figurine.
The Village Psychic x New Balance Numeric Tiago Lemos 1010 is available now on the Village Psychic website. A wider release will take place on March 17th via the New Balance website and select skate shops. Grab a detailed look below.
